Artist: Sweeney Thaiday

This work is about ceremonial facial tattoos handed down from father to son. The number of men killed were also carved into the face by a bamboo knife. Gep was a paranoid warrior. Any noise and he would jump and hold other warriors. He was tested by his father to go and hunt by himself. When he returned his father saw a change in him, that he was brave and strong hearted and would bring honour to his father. He grew up to beome the chief of his people. His face, full of tattoos scared his enemy and kept them away.
