Imbued with both memory and a strong sense of place, Agnes Armstrong’s work traverses the breadth of her Country. From contemplations of her childhood experiences growing up on Old Ivanhoe Station to important Dreaming sites, her playful compositions radiate the same joy that Agnes spreads.
As a Miriwoong Elder, her work also serves as a tool for teaching young people. “That’s why I can’t stop painting because I love to tell stories from my mind and heart. It reminds our young ones to take over our culture and our sacred land. Our people used to walk from Country to Country and place to place. People don’t know where they’re coming from today”.
