ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
In Echoes of the River I explore the source of the Avon River at the place where it emerges from the ground. Here it reveals it ancient origins and the intersect with an indelible human imprint echoing across seasons and time.
The works in this exhibition reflect on our social history with water and the river country, inviting the viewer to consider how we make our own history with these elements. In so doing I question how the river as a vital resource keeps us to account, reflecting on the ancient knowledge carried by the waterway, and the newer meanings running through contemporary life. It is by listening to our country that we learn of the past and build a future.
The exhibition has been created after numerous visits to the country observing the seasonal changes over many years, conversations with the local people, and indepth research of the river stories.
