Weapu is the traditional language name for Mother of the Sand or Sand Lion In old times, designs taken from this small insect were used for body decoration. Today we are not sure why this small insect design had such importance. It could be because people lived along the coastline and had close contact with this small insect that lives in the sand. Records show many variations of designs based on Weapu. I have represented some of these designs in my work.
