Walking Snake by Tyrown Waigana
An exhibition by West Australian artist Tyrown Waigana exploring the unrealistic and evershifting expectations often placed on Indigenous people in Australia. Reflecting on the pressure to be exceptional in order to be accepted, Walking Snake offers a thought provoking commentary on identity, representation and belonging. To be opened by Glenn Pilkington.
Tyrown Waigana
Tyrown Waigana is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose practice spans painting, illustration, sculpture, animation, and graphic design. Of Wandandi Noongar, Yawuru, and Ait Koedal heritage, Waigana was born in East Fremantle (Walyalup) and raised in the surrounding suburbs of Western Australia. His work explores themes such as everyday myths, gaps in communication, and the rhetoric surrounding Indigenous identity—often infused with wit and humour. Through his art, Waigana seeks to challenge perceptions while embracing opportunities that push creative boundaries, allowing him to continually evolve and grow as an artist.
