Exhibition Information

M_MIXER- Matthew Clarke and Martin Edge

01 June to 27 May 2016

115 Hay St Subiaco

This exhibition celebrates the coming together of two young men from different regions each with their own individual challenges and both with a compelling passion and drive in respect of their art practices.

Matthew Clarke lives near Warrnambool in South West Victoria in a wooden hamlet.  He is enamored with the vibrant world that surrounds him. Matthew paints his subjects with an unquestionable spontaneity and conviction. His works tell of an effervescent ecology bursting at the seams with eccentric and dynamic characters.  Each dazzling visual record presents a unique persona hatched from his undeniable joie de vivre.

Martin Edge was born just one year earlier than Matthew in 1985 in Queensland. Martin describes himself as a naïve artist who depicts the world according to his everyday life or adventures that he has been on or aspires to. Martin mixes vibrant, eye catching colours to create his happy and humorous scenes. He paints working from a flat table in his studio listening to classical music.

In 2014, Matthew was exhibiting as a finalist in the Moreton Bay Art Award held at Pine Rivers Art Gallery, located only a few minutes from Martin’s home. After viewing Matthew’s work, Martin contacted Mossenson Galleries with an enquiry regarding Matthew’s work. The ensuing conversion  led to the possibility and planning for this joint exhibition of their work in Perth. Both artists will travel to Perth for the opening, meeting each other for the first time..
